100 Cancellation Rate of Tourist Bookings in Petra for the Current Month of March

Khaberni - Adnan Al-Swa'ir, the Chairman of the Commissioners Council of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, stated that the cancellation rate of tourist bookings in Petra has reached 100% during the current month of March, due to the surrounding regional circumstances and their impact on tourist movements.

On Monday, Al-Swa'ir indicated that the cancellation rate for bookings in April reached 60%, while the cancellation rate for May reached 45%, noting that this rate is expected to rise.

He explained that Petra began the year 2026 with promising indicators in tourist numbers, but these numbers have significantly dropped, reaching "zero" levels at times, due to the surrounding conditions, confirming that Petra is among the cities most affected, especially since its community is economically dependent mainly on the tourism sector.

Al-Swa'ir confirmed that the Regional Authority has begun taking precautionary measures to protect workers in the sector and maintain their job security, through activating domestic tourism programs such as the “Our Jordan is a Paradise” program.

He added that the Authority will take advantage of the city's vacant periods to implement development, cleaning, and infrastructure rehabilitation projects.
