Israeli Knesset Speaker Threatens Assassination of New Guide

Khaberni  - Amir Ohana, Israeli Knesset Speaker, threatened on Sunday to assassinate Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who took over following his father Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the Israeli-American attack on Tehran on February 28.

Ohana posted a picture on the X platform showing the former leader Ali Khamenei next to leaders from Hamas and Hezbollah, and commented, "Whoever follows their path will tread their path."

Ohana's threat came following statements by a spokesman for the Israeli army, who warned of targeting everyone involved in the meeting to choose the new Guide, saying "We warn of targeting the Assembly of Experts planning to convene in Qom."

Israeli sources revealed last Tuesday that the Israeli army carried out a precise strike targeting a meeting of the Assembly of Experts in Iran, which is constitutionally responsible for electing the Supreme Leader.

According to a senior Israeli official, the strike aimed to prevent the council from electing a successor to Ali Khamenei.

Trump's Threats

This escalation coincides with the stance of US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly opposed Mojtaba Khamenei's taking office, warning that the new Guide "will not last long" without his approval.

Trump said in an interview with "Axios" that "the outcome is unacceptable," stating that "Khamenei's son is a weak figure," and added, "I must be involved in this appointment, just as happened with Delcy Rodríguez in Venezuela."

Since the dawn of Saturday, February 28, 2026, Israel and the United States have waged a war on Iran, named by Tel Aviv "Lion's Roar," while Washington called it "Epic Fury," which resulted in the death of the Supreme Leader and top security and military officials, as well as civilians. Tehran responded with operation "True Promise 4."

The United States and Israel announced that the opening strike killed 49 top Iranian leaders, while the joint airstrikes targeted dozens of locations in Tehran and the cities of Qom, Isfahan, Kermanshah, Karaj, and Tabriz, resulting in the deaths of several top Iranian officials.
