Khaberni - Austrian researchers have revealed an innovative and simple method to control appetite and reduce overeating, which may offer an alternative to expensive measures like fat-burning injections.
A recent study conducted by the University of Graz showed that listening to a favorite song while eating may reduce the craving for sweets and fatty foods, while listening to disliked music can lead to the opposite results, increasing the desire for unhealthy meals.
The study involved 106 volunteers in their twenties, who were asked to listen to pieces of music they either liked or disliked while sitting at a table filled with sweets and fruits.
The researchers used cameras to track the participants' eye movements to determine what caught their attention more, in addition to recording their food choices.
The results, published in the journal Appetite, showed that participants who listened to favorite music chose healthier options like grapes more often, while those forced to listen to disliked songs had a greater inclination towards sugary sweets.
The researchers stated that music has a direct impact on mood, which in turn affects food choices, confirming that "music may provide a promising tool to promote healthy behaviors and reduce overeating."
