Once Again The Tune in Friday Sermon
Author: مجدي محمد محيلان

The tune: It is the mistake in inflection, (God Almighty said, "And you will know them by the tone of speech") Surah Muhammad, verse 30
And the poet said: A language when it falls upon our ears... becomes a comfort to our hearts
It will remain a bond that unites us... for it is hope for a speaker of Dhad
In the past, the Friday preacher played an important role in addition to the sermon, which was to correct the linguistic rules and vocabulary that were unclear to the general public, through his correct pronunciation, articulation, and control over his text. Thus, he was both a sheikh and a (teacher). Unfortunately, the situation has reversed now, and many of the congregants are the ones teaching while the preachers are the ones learning. There's no regard for performance, nor articulation, nor the use of correct vowels, and so forth. We fear that our children might get lost amid numerous linguistic errors, believing them to be correct when they are not!
Adding to the issue (to make matters worse) and here is the point: many of our esteemed preachers insist on improvising the sermon without the need to document it on paper so that it appears (in their view) more eloquent and they are not accused of poor memory. Here I say, if the preacher is articulate, proficient, confident, and experienced, then it's acceptable. But if not, what is the fault of the congregants? Honestly and with integrity, I say that while many preachers are eminent in Islamic sciences, they are less fortunate in Arabic (the language of the Quran), which Allah has honored the Arabs with. For example, in one Friday sermon, the preacher made over twenty mistakes in grammar and syntax that could alter the meaning and corrupt the intent.
In conclusion: Why doesn't the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which is keen on standardizing the sermon topic, also standardize the text grammatically and syntactically and distribute it among the preachers so that those who are not well-versed in the rules of the language can benefit? I suggest establishing refresher courses in Arabic for some of our esteemed preachers so that they become more proficient, and the error decreases making the benefit more widespread.
By the way, I would like to point out the matter of context and unfortunately say that some preachers have weaknesses and (awkwardness) whether in using vocabulary correctly or in unnecessary repetition at certain places because they try to add to the sermon text sent to them from the ministry and they miss. If they must, the respected preachers should adhere to the official sermon text so as not to fit the saying (interpreting water after effort with water) and may God have mercy on the poet Hafez Ibrahim when he says:
They accused me of being infertile in youth, and I wish.... I was infertile, so I did not despair of my enemies’ words
I have encompassed the book of Allah in expression and purpose....   and I have not shunned any verse therein for lessons

May God continue to bless us with (our Arabic language).
