Khaberni - The General Union of Writers and Authors in Iraq mourns today, Sunday, the distinguished novelist and translator Latifa Al-Dulaimi, who passed away in the Jordanian capital, Amman, at the age of 86, leaving behind a rich literary and intellectual legacy that enriched the Arab and Iraqi libraries.
The late was born in the city of Baqubah in Diyala province in 1939, and obtained a bachelor's degree in Arabic language and literature from the University of Baghdad, to begin a professional journey that combined teaching, journalism, and creative writing, and emerged as one of the fiercest defenders of women's rights and civil liberties in Iraq.
Al-Dulaimi's experience is a unique model in the cultural scene; where she managed to formulate a comprehensive creative project that intertwined novel and short story with translation and philosophical research.
Her work was marked by a deep commitment to intellectual freedom, where she published dozens of works and translations that have become today solid references for both researchers and readers alike.
With the departure of Al-Dulaimi, the cultural scene loses an enlightened mind and an exceptional literary figure, known for her "creative solitude" and her extraordinary ability to harness language to serve the causes of enlightenment and knowledge, to remain etched in the memory of future generations.
