Khaberni - The General Petroleum and Chemicals Workers Union held its meeting today, Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the general union headquarters, chaired by the general union president, Khalid Al-Ziyoud, and with the attendance of the representative of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, Mr. Mohammad Al-Za'bi, and the members of the administrative body, the general body, several heads of workers' unions, and guests.
The meeting started at 5:00 PM and continued until 6:00 PM, based on the text of Article (35) of the Unified System of Workers' Unions, where the general body approved the general union's agenda and endorsed the administrative and financial reports, commending the significant efforts made and achievements realized during the past period.
Khalid Al-Ziyoud, the president of the general union, welcomed the members of the general body, expressing appreciation for the confidence placed by the body in the union’s management, affirming that this support forms the primary lever for the success of union work and achieving its objectives in defending the rights of workers in the petroleum and chemicals sectors, and improving their living, social, and health conditions, in addition to enhancing the work environment and establishing positive labor relations that benefit both the worker and the institution alike.
In the context of discussing regional developments, Al-Ziyoud valued the firm and wise positions taken by the Jordanian state under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein in dealing with the crises and conflicts in the region, asserting that Jordan, with its Hashemite leadership, has once again proven its ability to manage regional challenges with wisdom and responsibility, safeguarding the nation's security, stability, and protecting its supreme national interests.
Al-Ziyoud stressed that the current military escalation and conflict in the region reflect a struggle for regional and international influence, unrelated to Jordan, emphasizing that Jordan's supreme interest requires keeping the country neutral from any conflicts or attempts to drag it into confrontation arenas. He added that Jordan has always been and will remain a nation committed to its security and stability and protecting its borders and national sovereignty.
The president of the union emphasized the necessity of standing united behind the Hashemite leadership and the state institutions, including the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army, and the security services, asserting that the unity of the home front is the fundamental guarantee to navigate through this delicate phase the region is experiencing.
Al-Ziyoud called upon all workers and citizens to maintain awareness and national responsibility, avoiding being swayed by rumors or disturbances that may target Jordan’s stability, affirming that the only reference in such circumstances is the official information released by the political leadership and state institutions.
Al-Ziyoud pointed out that this national role of the union accompanies its primary role in defending the rights of workers and improving their living and working conditions, asserting that the union will continue to work vigorously to protect workers' achievements and promote justice in legislation affecting workers in the sector.
In this context, Al-Ziyoud reiterated the union's position rejecting any infringement on the rights of insured workers in the proposed Jordanian Social Security Law, asserting that the currently proposed version involves a regression of workers' rights that should not be compromised, urging a review of these amendments to preserve workers' rights and safeguard their achievements.
The union has clearly stated its position through official channels and the media, also based on the supportive stance of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions advocating for the protection of workers' rights and preserving their gains in the social security system.
