Greater Amman Municipality launches environmental and sports projects to enhance quality of life

Khaberni - The Greater Amman Municipality launched a series of recreational, environmental, and sports projects, aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens and increasing green spaces in the capital, as part of the celebrations for "the Municipality" on Amman City Day, which coincides with the second of March each year, attended by the deputy mayor, Ziad Al-Reehani, and the city manager, Nabil Al-Jariri.

According to a statement from Amman Municipality on Saturday, the head of the Greater Amman Municipality committee, Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, inaugurated the Aqaba Bin Nafie Park in Zahran area, which was created on an area of 3200 dunams as part of its strategic plan for 2022–2026 to increase green spaces and urban areas.

The "Municipality" stated that the park included building a children's playground and a basketball court, and planting 1000 trees and bushes, in addition to implementing a modern irrigation network and a lighting system that relies on environmentally friendly solar energy spotlights.

The statement pointed out that Al-Shawarbeh inaugurated the Climate Academy building in Mysloon Park near the Hussein camp for refugees, which was established with support from the Global Cities Fund for Migration and Refugees (MMC) through the Council of City Mayors on Immigration, aiming to develop environmental awareness among the younger generations, enhance their understanding of climate change challenges, encourage them to adopt sustainable practices through innovative educational and interactive programs, and promote social integration for refugees and support Amman city's ability to adapt to climate change.

Al-Shawarbeh reviewed the rehabilitation works of Mysloon Park, which extends over an area of 4 dunams and included planting 1200 trees and bushes, and executing a modern irrigation network, in addition to rehabilitating the five-a-side football field, building a children's playground, and fully fencing the park.

On the other hand, the Amman Secretary inaugurated "Uhud" Park in the Al-Manakher area in the Uhud region, as part of the Municipality's strategic plan for the years 2022–2026 to improve the environmental reality, increase green spaces and urban areas, and create sustainable environmental spaces, and establish natural outlets for citizens in the southern areas of Amman.

The park, which was built on an area of 14 dunams, contains many facilities that serve its visitors, including a five-a-side football pitch, in addition to seating areas equipped with special barbeque grills.

The "Municipality" worked on planting 1000 trees in the park and executing modern irrigation networks, and a lighting system that depends on environmentally friendly solar energy spotlights, in addition to fully fencing the park.

The opening of the Uhud Park comes as the second vital project implemented by the Municipality in the region after the opening of Princess Salma Park last year, meeting the needs of the citizens in the southern areas of Amman, as part of its plan to enhance the green spaces system in the city.

On his part, Al-Shawarbeh sponsored the launch of the "Amman Neighborhoods" project in King Abdullah II Gardens in Muqabaleen, which includes the inauguration of 14 advanced centers for the "Promise Amman Municipality Greater Football" program distributed across various city areas.

The "Promise Municipality" centers, which belong to the Department of Facilities and Sports Programs, aim to provide free sports services to local community members aged 8 to 14 years, in line with the system of the Jordanian Football Federation, and to supply clubs and national teams with talented players.

Al-Shawarbeh stated that the opening of these projects embodies the "Municipality's commitment to making Amman a sustainable and environmentally friendly city, and contributes to improving the quality of life for citizens in all areas through enhancing the service system and creating safe and comfortable urban spaces prepared to welcome citizens.

He confirmed that Amman Municipality strives to provide a suitable and stimulating sports environment that meets the needs of all community groups, in addition to promoting and enhancing the concept of sports to make sports activities a way of life and behavior in the lives of community members, especially the youth.
