Khaberni - The New York Times reported that the average price of gasoline in the United States reached $3.41 per gallon on Saturday, amid continued rapid increases in fuel prices.
The newspaper noted that gas prices in the United States increased by about 14% in just one week.
In turn, the American Automobile Association confirmed that gasoline prices recorded an increase of 14.4% during the same period, reflecting increasing pressure on energy costs for consumers.
On Friday, oil prices rose to record levels after Donald Trump said the war would continue until "Iran's full surrender", amid investor concerns about a disruption of oil supplies from the Middle East.
The price of Brent crude, the international benchmark, exceeded $94 per barrel on Friday (a 10% increase from the previous day), recording its highest level since 2023. The price of West Texas Intermediate, the American counterpart, reached more than $92 per barrel, with a daily increase exceeding 13%.
Two informed sources said that the White House is asking federal agencies to intensify efforts to address rising energy prices due to the conflict with Iran, indicating concern that the measures taken to date may not be sufficient.
One of the sources mentioned that officials from the Departments of Energy, Transportation, Finance, and the Environmental Protection Agency requested more policy options, focusing on measures that President Donald Trump can implement without congressional approval.
These requests indicate that the White House is preparing for the possibility of taking bolder actions should oil and gas prices continue to rise.
Political analysts say that rising gasoline prices could harm Trump and his Republican party in the midterm elections in November, when control of Congress is at stake.
