Jordan Abundance of food supplies and normal shopping activity

Khaberni - Engineer Jamal Amro, a representative of the food sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, confirmed that the shopping movement in the local market for food and basic goods is proceeding naturally, with an abundance of goods and stability in prices.

Amro said that the shopping activity in the local market is proceeding as usual, and has slightly increased over the past few days with the disbursement of salaries for private sector employees, and citizens stocking up on Ramadan goods.

He added that many citizens choose Fridays to shop and buy their food needs, which is a usual practice for them, confirming that the demand for goods among wholesale traders is normal, and no increase in quantities has been observed.

He confirmed the presence of a large abundance of food supplies and basic goods in the kingdom, with a stock of these goods, in addition to the ongoing movement of goods supply, with materials arriving at the Aqaba port, alongside contracting for other quantities that will subsequently arrive in the kingdom.

Amro pointed out that importers and wholesalers began contracting to purchase food supplies from countries near the kingdom, to overcome any repercussions that may be imposed by the regional conditions, affirming that this will contribute to supporting the kingdom's stock and maintaining supply with shorter time frames.

He indicated that the prices of food supplies available in the local market are stable and have not been affected by increases, but if the regional developments in the region continue for a long period, price hikes may occur due to increased global shipping and insurance costs.

Amro called on citizens not to rush to buy food items and store them, as there are many alternatives and varieties of each commodity to meet all desires, praising the measures and decisions taken by the government to ensure price stability and supply of goods, and to avoid any global reflection on prices due to the repercussions of regional situations.

The food sector is one of the main commercial sectors in the kingdom, comprising about 14,000 companies distributed among importers, wholesalers, and retail stores across the country, half of them in the capital, providing about 200,000 job opportunities, most of them for local labor.
