Khaberni - Apple has finally unveiled the new "MacBook Neo" (MacBook Neo), aiming to expand the user base of Mac laptops by offering a device at a lower cost than the company's prices for Mac laptops.
The device announcement comes during the company's launch week, which also saw the release of the iPhone 17e and the iPad Air equipped with an M4 chip, but the MacBook Neo is expected to be the main focus of interest due to its competitive price.
According to tech reports, the device relies on the A18 Pro chip originally developed by Apple for iPhones, instead of the usual M series chips in Mac devices, which is an uncommon step as it is almost the first time a smartphone-specific chip is used inside a Mac device running macOS.
In terms of design, the MacBook Neo maintains the slim profile known in MacBook Air devices, and comes with a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a brightness of up to 500 nits. Apple confirms that the battery life is up to about 16 hours of use, only two hours less compared to the latest MacBook Air version.
The device includes two USB-C ports alongside a 1080p FaceTime HD camera and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and retains the multi-touch touchpad and the Magic Keyboard, and unlike some other Mac devices, the keyboard does not include a backlight.
The device is available in two main versions; the first priced at $599 includes 8 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of storage, but lacks the Touch ID feature and relies on a traditional power button.
The higher-priced version, costing $699, comes with 512 gigabytes of storage capacity and includes the Touch ID feature while maintaining the same amount of random access memory.
To offer the device at this relatively low price, Apple has omitted some options, as the MacBook Neo does not offer storage capacities higher than 512 gigabytes, and the fingerprint feature is only available in the higher version. The device is available in four colors: silver, rose gold, gold, and blue.
