Saudi Arabia intercepts missiles fired towards an air base

Khaberni - Saudi Arabia announced on Friday the interception and destruction of 3 Iranian missiles launched towards Prince Sultan Air Base.

The Saudi Press Agency reported, quoting the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, that three ballistic missiles were intercepted and destroyed which were launched towards Prince Sultan Air Base.

Early on Saturday, the Ministry of Defense also reported the interception and destruction of 4 drones in the Empty Quarter heading towards the Shaybah field.

Earlier on Friday, the Defense Ministry announced the interception and destruction of a cruise missile east of Al-Kharj Governorate, in addition to intercepting and destroying a drone northeast of Riyadh.

A report by Bloomberg stated that Saudi Arabia has intensified its direct communications with Iran in an attempt to contain the ongoing war in the Middle East, which has caused widespread disturbances and burdened the global markets, as stated by several European officials.

The officials told Bloomberg that Saudi officials have activated their back-channel diplomatic channels with Iran more urgently in recent days to reduce tension and prevent the escalation of conflict.

They mentioned that several European and Middle Eastern countries support these efforts.

They added that the contacts included security agencies and diplomats from both sides, but it was unclear whether they had reached higher leadership levels, and so far, Iran has shown limited inclination to enter into negotiations with the United States or Israel.

This activity comes at a time when Iran responded to the American and Israeli strikes that began on February 28 by launching missile attacks and drone strikes on neighboring Gulf states.

On the other hand, the Gulf states have called on Iran to avoid targeting them in any military response, while asserting that the United States and Israel cannot use their airspace or territory to launch attacks on Iran.
