Cold Wave Affects Jordan on Monday

Khaberni -  Specialized maps in the movement of air masses indicate a surge of an extremely cold air mass of polar origin towards the eastern region of the European continent, whereby it will position itself at the beginning of next week above Turkish territory, and the effects of this extremely cold and dry air mass will extend towards the Levant and Iraq, leading to a rapid cold wave accompanied by significantly low temperatures during the night and early morning hours.

A Ramadan cold wave affects the Kingdom starting from Sunday/Monday night, and the temperatures are at levels close to the winter solstice. It is expected, God willing, that the Kingdom will be affected by this cold wave starting from the evening and night hours of Sunday/Monday, where a noticeable drop in temperatures occurs to levels similar to what they are in the winter solstice, i.e., close to the freezing point in several areas of the high mountain peaks and the eastern plains and the desert, and the weather conditions are conducive to the formation of frost.

It is expected, God willing, that the Kingdom will continue to be affected by the cold wave during the daytime on Monday, and the weather in the early morning will be extremely cold, with temperatures low and frost formation. However, during the rest of the day, the weather becomes relatively cold to cold despite being sunny in various areas, before returning to extreme cold during the night hours, and the chances of frost formation rise again as temperatures approach freezing again in some areas.

Negative repercussions of the cold wave on the region and potential effects on the crops, as being affected by such a cold wave at this time of the year may be harmful to the crops. It is expected that the soil temperature may reach freezing or even below that in some areas, which may reflect negatively on the crops that are cultivated at this time of the year, hence, farmers are advised to take the necessary preventive measures to avoid damage to the agricultural crops, God forbid, as temperatures drop around freezing, especially near the ground surface.

The cold wave is not limited to Jordan and includes the Levant and Iraq

The impact of this cold wave is not limited to Jordan only, but it is expected to have more apparent effects on Syria, Lebanon, and the western and northern parts of Iraq, and to a lesser extent in Palestine.

The forecasts indicate a clear drop in temperatures during the night hours in those areas, where temperatures may touch or drop below freezing in some regions of the Syrian desert and western Iraq, in addition to the tops of high mountain ranges in Syria and Lebanon, with also a chance for frost formation during the night and early morning hours.
