Khaberni - On behalf of His Majesty King Abdullah II, His Highness Prince Ali bin Nayef sponsored today, on Friday, the events of the 122nd Hashemite Scientific Council under the title "Consensus as a safety valve against deviation".
Speaking at the council, which was the third of this year and held in the hall of the Islamic Cultural Center affiliated with the Mosque of the Martyr King Founder Abdullah bin Al-Hussein, may God bless his soul, was the Chief Justice Abdul Hafeez Rabtah, and the Head of the Religious Sector in the Egyptian Ministry of Endowments, Mr. Hussein Abdul Bari.
Rabtah emphasized the importance of consensus as a tool to control juristic efforts and prevent deviations in opinions, as a comprehensive reference in times of disagreement, which makes it one of the greatest means of preserving religion and stabilizing Sharia rulings and uniting the nation, especially in an era that witnesses chaos in fatwas sometimes issued by non-specialists.
In his turn, Abdul Bari said that consensus embodies the collective approach in reasoning, highlights the institutional nature of Islamic jurisprudence, prevents domination of opinion, and reflects the cumulative jurisprudential experience of the nation's scholars, in addition to being a supreme reference in times of emergencies and new issues, thus preserving the scientific and jurisprudential identity of Muslims throughout the ages.
The Hashemite Scientific Councils are an annual Jordanian tradition organized by the Ministry of Endowments during the blessed month of Ramadan under royal sponsorship, to spread moderate Islamic thought, promote an enlightened moderate religious discourse, in addition to discussing contemporary issues, with the participation of scholars and thinkers from Jordan and other Islamic countries.
