Since Saturday, Israel and the United States have conducted airstrikes on Iran, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has been responding by striking Israel and other countries in the region with rockets and drones.
Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the former Supreme Leader, is considered among the most prominent candidates to succeed him, noting he is one of the most influential figures in Iran. The name Hasan Khamenei is also mentioned as a potential successor, but US President Donald Trump says he wants to participate in selecting the next Iranian leader.
Following the death of the Supreme Leader, a transitional leadership council took over the administration of the country until the Assembly of Experts elects a permanent leader.
Iran targeted oil tankers and containers attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz.
On Sunday, Hezbollah fired several rockets from Lebanon targeting Northern Israel in response to the assassination of Khamenei, dragging Lebanon into an open war with Israel, where devastating airstrikes were carried out on South Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut.
