Amid Iran disputes Trump gives Starmer a new title

Khaberni - For U.S. President Donald Trump, the world is divided into winners and losers, and the British Prime Minister is on the wrong list.

The British newspaper "Telegraph" revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump described British Prime Minister Keir Starmer as a "loser" in talks with his friends.

The newspaper clarified that during a private dinner held two weeks ago, Trump directed his harshest words of scorn at Starmer, with "Telegraph" quoting a source saying, "Trump described Starmer as a loser during a dinner with his friends... He simply believes that Starmer has no future."

This tone represents a reversal in Trump's opinion, who previously described Starmer as a "winner", and it is the latest indicator that the relationship between the White House and Downing Street has irreversibly deteriorated.

Last Tuesday, Trump attacked Starmer for not supporting the war on Iran, saying that he is "not Winston Churchill" and considered him "bad for relations."

At a White House press conference, Trump also criticized Starmer for his "terrible" policies on immigration and energy, and urged the United Kingdom to abolish "Sharia courts" and "open the North Sea" to oil and gas.

Just a few days ago, Trump told "Telegraph" that he was "very disappointed" in Starmer for initially hindering the use of the "Diego Garcia" military base in the Chagos Archipelago for launching military strikes.

The UK had earlier refused to grant the United States permission to launch strikes from Royal Air Force bases, citing international law, before Starmer backed down last Sunday evening and announced that he would allow Washington to conduct air operations from these bases "for specific and limited defensive purposes."

This dispute led Trump to withdraw his support for the controversial British Chagos Agreement, under which the UK cedes ownership of the British Indian Ocean Territory to Mauritius, in exchange for leasing the Diego Garcia military base.

Trump is known for describing his political opponents, including top Democrats, as "losers", in contrast to describing himself and other favored Republican figures as "winners".

Previous reports indicated that Trump praised Starmer and described him as a "winner" when they met at the dinner table in Trump Tower in New York two months before he was elected President of the United States.

Before the meeting that came after Starmer won the 2024 election, Trump said, "I think he's a very nice person.. He ran a wonderful campaign, achieved excellent results, and it's still early, and he is very popular."

The friendly relationship continued after Trump's return to the White House where he said, days after his inauguration, that Starmer "has done a very good job so far" and that their relationship is "excellent".

After their first meeting at the White House in February 2025, Trump said, "The start was great" and praised Starmer and his "beautiful accent", describing him as a "very tough negotiator", after Washington threatened to impose punitive tariffs.

In July last year during his visit to Scotland, Trump praised Starmer's wife and his "ideal" family, saying, "I admire your prime minister, he's a bit more liberal than me, but I admire him."
