Khaberni - Dr. Fadi Al-Atrash, the representative of the therapeutic industries and medical supplies sector at the Jordan Chamber of Industry, attributed the growth in the Kingdom's exports of pharmaceutical preparations last year to the increased demand for Jordanian medicine in foreign markets.
He pointed out that the Kingdom's exports of pharmaceutical preparations, according to the foreign trade figures issued by the General Statistics Department, grew last year by 5.1 percent, reaching 642 million dinars, compared to 611 million dinars in 2024.
Al-Atrash stated that the Jordanian pharmaceutical industry has begun to benefit from the momentum and significant royal support, especially following His Majesty King Abdullah II's tours to several Asian countries experiencing growth and demand for human pharmaceutical products.
He added that the pharmaceutical industries today represent one of the most promising sectors in Jordan, due to their advanced expertise and high quality, and the Kingdom now produces more than 4500 pharmaceutical varieties, up from a few varieties in previous years.
Al-Atrash mentioned that the human pharmaceutical factories in the Kingdom continuously work on expanding production lines, injecting new investments, and keeping up with the latest technological developments related to pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovating new products, which has enhanced their position, quality, and competitiveness in export markets.
The human pharmaceutical industries sector includes 30 facilities spread across various regions of the Kingdom, with a registered capital of about 350 million dinars, providing 10,000 direct job opportunities, 35 percent of which are occupied by females, while the exports reach 85 markets around the world.
According to Al-Atrash, the human pharmaceutical industries sector has a production capacity of up to 1.5 billion dinars annually, and is based on a successful business model focusing on generic drugs with brand names, alongside adherence to high international standards.
He noted that Jordan produces a wide range of medicines covering various medical specialties, including chronic diseases, oncology, infectious, neurological, psychiatric, allergy, and gastrointestinal diseases, in addition to various pharmaceutical forms including tablets, capsules, liquids, drops, sprays, solutions, intravenous injections, and creams.
Al-Atrash highlighted the pivotal role played by the Public Food and Drug Administration in supporting therapeutic industries, especially through accelerating the procedures for registering medicines, medical supplies, and dietary supplements, and applying good manufacturing standards, which has contributed to enhancing the sector's capacity for expansion and entering new markets and reinforcing its presence in global supply chains.
