Khaberni - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the assassination of the guide Ali Khamenei will make the confrontation more complicated and dangerous, and confirmed that his country will not close the Strait of Hormuz at this time.
Araghchi described the assassination of the guide during an interview with Al Jazeera as a very dangerous and unprecedented act and a blatant violation of international law.
He emphasized that there are no restrictions or limits on Iran's right to defend itself.
Regarding the repercussions of the guide's assassination on the political situation in Iran, Araghchi said that the Iranian Foreign Minister stated that things are proceeding systematically in the country, and everything is in accordance with the constitution, according to his expression.
He spoke about the beginning of a constitutional process, indicating that the transitional council established today will work on managing affairs.
In this context, he mentioned that state institutions are established, and there are constitutional procedures, without ruling out the election of a supreme leader (guide) after a day or two.
The Iranian minister said that if the United States has intentions to change the regime in Iran, it is an impossible task, confirming that the absence or death of the guide does not mean that.
Araghchi stressed that his country can defend itself without external help, saying, "Our military units are now independent, isolated, and operating according to general instructions given to them in advance."
Relations with the Gulf
In the interview, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi talked about the relations between his country and the Gulf states in light of the current war.
Araghchi said that Iran does not attack its neighbors in the Gulf states but attacks the American presence in these countries, according to his expression.
He added that Tehran knows that the Gulf states are angry at the Iranian attacks on them, but they should know that this war was imposed on Iran, according to him.
He continued that his country's relations are good with the countries on the other side of the Gulf, and there are no problems between them.
Araghchi clarified that he is in continuous contact with his counterparts in the region, and has provided them with explanations regarding the Iranian strikes on their countries, noting that some of them were angry.
The Iranian minister in the interview said, "Our neighbors cannot expect us to watch attacks launched from their countries at us and remain silent," according to his expression.
He added that the Iranian leadership asked its armed forces to be careful about the targets they bomb in the regional countries.
Also, the Iranian Foreign Minister told Al Jazeera that his country had begun attacking U.S. military bases in the region, which prompted them to start evacuating them.
