Khaberni - The CEO of Royal Jordanian, Samer Majali, said on Sunday that when any country closes its airspace, Royal Jordanian suspends its flights to it. This comes amid regional tensions after Israel and the United States attacked Iran on Saturday.
Majali added in his remarks to "Al-Mamlaka" that Royal Jordanian is keen on securing its passengers, noting at the same time the continued suspension of flights to Syria, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar, due to the closure of their airspace.
When asked about the presence of Jordanians stranded at airports, he said there were no stranded passengers.
Majali expressed his gratitude to the government, the armed forces, and the Civil Aviation Authority for their significant efforts to keep the Jordanian airspace open, with periods of suspension during certain times due to security conditions (American and Israeli military strikes on Iran).
He said: "On Saturday, all Royal Jordanian flights to Europe, America, North Africa, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon departed with delays, and the flights returned according to the schedules from Europe and those regions to Jordan last night."
He added: "Operation was suspended to Iraq, Syria, and the Gulf states as a result of their airspace closure due to the surrounding circumstances, and this state continues today."
He continued: "Today, Royal Jordanian planes are departing to Europe, America, Egypt, North Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon according to the scheduled timetable, with minor delays according to the prevailing conditions. The closure continues for the countries I mentioned until a decision is taken to open their airspace."
Regarding the flights that were diverted, he said that no flights were redirected to other points because Jordanian airspace continued to operate.
He added: "Royal Jordanian is here to serve anyone outside or in Jordan."
Regarding the emergency measures taken by Royal Jordanian in the current circumstances, he said: "We dealt with the situation yesterday, and we continue in this approach. As long as Jordanian airspace is open, we have no issue, and any country that closes its airspace, we have to suspend operation to it until these airspaces are opened. For example, passengers coming through Jordan to Syria, instead of boarding planes, are transported by buses from Queen Alia Airport to Damascus and return by the same method."
Regarding the number of Jordanians stranded at airports, Majali said: "To our knowledge, no one is stranded. We had passengers stranded coming with other companies or with Royal Jordanian, who were heading to the Gulf, and these are present at Queen Alia Airport waiting for the resumption of flights to the Gulf countries."
