Assassination of the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Abdul Rahim Mousavi

Khaberni - Iranian state television announced this morning the killing of Major General Abdul Rahim Mousavi, the head of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, without disclosing additional details about the circumstances of his death.

On the morning following the killing of the guide, Iranian state television announced the death of Major General Abdul Rahim Mousavi, head of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.

Abdul Rahim Mousavi was an Iranian military commander who served as the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. He was appointed by Mr. Ali Khamenei as the head of the General Staff on June 13, 2025, succeeding Mohammad Bagheri following his assassination in an Israeli raid.

Mousavi was born in 1960 in the Iranian city of Qom and has a military background in artillery, serving in this field during the years of the Iran-Iraq war.

He joined the Army's Ground Force Military Academy in 1979, and during the Iran-Iraq war, he successfully completed leadership courses in various units. In 1997, he attended the Davos period (specialized training courses in military sciences), and he completed a doctoral theory course in national defense management at the Higher National Defense University.

From August 26, 2005, to June 2016, he held the position of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army Forces and head of the Army Forces Strategic Studies Center. Before that, he served as Deputy of the Planning and Programs Department for the Army Ground Forces.

On July 6, 2016, he was appointed Deputy of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces and served as the deputy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces from June 2016 to August 2017.

On June 13, 2025, Ali Khamenei appointed him as the head of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, succeeding Mohammad Bagheri, who was assassinated the same day.
