Khaberni - "The Wall Street Journal" reported that the U.S. Secret Service will intensify security enhancements at the White House and at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, as well as other locations across the United States.
The Secret Service is an agency attached to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is tasked with protecting the U.S. President, former presidents, presidential candidates, and other key public figures.
The newspaper attributed to Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi who said that the agency "is closely monitoring the situation in Iran, and continuously coordinates with its federal and local partners".
He added that "the Secret Service's protective model is designed to be adaptable to the requirements of the current security environment and to ensure the safety of the protectees, protected sites, and surrounding communities".
This spokesperson noted that residents might notice an increased presence of law enforcement and federal entities around the White House, Mar-a-Lago resort, and other protected sites.
Military Developments
This security tightening comes amid an American-Israeli attack on Iran, and Tehran's response with missiles and drones on American bases in several Gulf countries, as well as targeting deep within Israel.
This security tightening also follows an incident last Sunday where Secret Service agents killed a 20-year-old man who was armed and attempted to infiltrate the Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The Secret Service spokesperson mentioned that the young man did not comply with the orders of the Secret Service agents and brandished his weapon at them, which forced them to kill him. Trump and his wife Melania were at the White House at the time of the incident.
The resort is currently under heightened security which includes surveillance gates and multiple procedures carried out by the U.S. Secret Service, especially when the President or other important figures are present. Trump often spends his vacations at this luxurious resort.
Trump survived an assassination attempt during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024, when a gunman fired 8 shots before being killed by a Secret Service sniper.
