Khaberni - Iran announced today Saturday the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation, a move that could threaten global energy supplies.
The British Maritime Trade Operations authority reported today Saturday that it has received several reports from ships in the Gulf stating that they have received messages indicating the closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions in the region.
The authority stated in a release that ships have reported receiving notifications related to the closure of the strait, without providing additional details about the source of these messages or their nature.
In the same context, an official at the European Union's naval mission "Aspides" said that ships are receiving messages via the high-frequency wave from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard stating that "no ship is allowed to cross the Strait of Hormuz".
The official, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, added that Iran has not yet officially confirmed issuing such a decision.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered the most important passageway for oil exportation in the world, linking major oil producers in the Gulf, such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, and the UAE, with the Gulf of Oman and then the Arabian Sea.
