Before World Cup 2026 FIFA sends mission to Mexico to evaluate security file

Khaberni  - FIFA plans to send a mission to Mexico to assess several sensitive files, most notably the security file, in preparation for the 2026 World Cup football matches, according to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Friday evening.

Claudia explained that she had a conversation with FIFA’s Swiss president Gianni Infantino on Thursday.

Following that, Infantino reaffirmed on Instagram his "full confidence in the host country," after a wave of violence in the country linked to the killing of one of the leading drug traffickers raised new concerns about security in Mexico.

Claudia said during a press conference: "Infantino reassured me about hosting the World Cup in our country, and we agreed that a FIFA mission will come in any case to review several files."

Claudia revealed that the FIFA president asked her if there was anything especially concerning her, to which she replied: "No.. Sunday was an exceptional case, and afterwards, we returned to normal."

Claudia pointed out that the FIFA mission will particularly focus on traffic issues and available transportation means for football fans.

Mexico Ready to Safely Host the 2026 World Cup

Claudia assured that there is "no danger" threatening football fans and that "all safety and security guarantees" will be available for Guadalajara to host the World Cup 2026 matches as planned.

Guadalajara is scheduled to host four matches of the tournament in June, which Mexico organizes in cooperation with the United States and Canada.

In addition, the city, along with Monterrey in the northeast of the country, will host the global play-offs next month to determine the last two teams out of 48 participating in the finals.

Mexico witnessed a large wave of violence after the killing of drug cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera, known as "El Mencho," during a military operation last Sunday.
