Nawaf Salam Lebanon does not need Irans support

Khaberni - Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said,  on Thursday, that the decision of war and peace is solely in the hands of the state, emphasizing that Lebanon does not need to enter into adventures to support Iran.

Salam expressed the Lebanese state's refusal to be "dragged" into new adventures "because their cost is high".

He clarified that his country does not need to engage in any new adventures to support Iran or otherwise.

Regarding arms limitation, he said that the second phase of the arms limitation plan north of the Litani River is supposed to end within 4 months if conditions allow.

Meanwhile, a US official said that Washington's estimates that Hezbollah's involvement in war alongside Iran depends on the extent of the potential US military strike.

In turn, Yedioth Ahronoth quoted an Israeli source stating that the possibility of Hezbollah entering the fight against Israel if Iran is attacked is a concerning matter and "we are dealing with it".

"Red Line"
A Hezbollah official said on Wednesday that the group does not intend to intervene militarily if the United States conducts "limited" strikes on Iran, warning, on the other hand, that targeting the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei or seeking to overthrow the Iranian regime constitutes a "red line".

The French Press Agency reported from the official, who preferred to remain unnamed, that "Hezbollah's stance is not to intervene militarily if the US strikes on Iran are limited", but he added "if their goal is to topple the Iranian regime or target Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, then the group will intervene at that time".

He emphasized that any targeting of Khamenei "would constitute a red line that cannot be ignored", considering that any war aimed at overthrowing the regime in Iran "inevitably means that Israel will rush to wage war on Lebanon". He added that Hezbollah's involvement in this case "will not be limited but existential combat".

These statements come at a time when Washington has posted a large military force in the Gulf and Middle East region, amid repeated threats to attack Tehran if ongoing negotiations between the parties, which are being held in their third round in Geneva, fail.
