Khaberni - Irbid Municipality staff seized 80 cartons of bananas during monitoring rounds in the commercial market and the central vegetable market, in addition to more than 7 tons of potatoes, due to their unsuitability for human consumption and their violation of the approved display and storage conditions.
The municipal spokesman, Gaith Al-Tal, stated that the public health control teams observed the display of bananas directly under sunlight in the commercial market's vegetable stores, causing spoilage and affecting their quality. He confirmed that the quantity was immediately secured and necessary measures were taken against the violators.
Al-Tal added that the rounds extended to the central vegetable market, where inspection operations revealed large quantities of potatoes with clear signs of spoilage due to poor storage and prolonged display, which necessitated their seizure and destruction to protect public health.
Al-Tal indicated that the seized quantities were transferred to the municipal composting station, where they were destroyed and reused as organic fertilizer, in accordance with environmental and health procedures.
He affirmed the continuation of daily inspection campaigns on markets and commercial stores, emphasizing the necessity for merchants to comply with public safety conditions and proper display mechanisms, to avoid legal accountability and ensure the safety of food circulating in the markets.
