Khaberni - A responsible source told Al Mamlaka channel that the government has prepared an alternative plan to the agreement to buy additional water from Israel (50 million cubic meters annually), which was initiated by the guidance of the Prime Minister last year before the agreement ended to ensure the sustainability of Jordanian water security.
It is noted that the water agreement expired three months ago and has not been renewed yet, and this agreement is considered an important part of the cooperation in the field of water between Jordan and Israel.
The source also emphasized that the national interest will determine Jordan's options and priorities in this matter and future actions in this regard.
The source revealed that the final steps to sign the financial closure of the national water carrier project with international and local agencies are currently being finalized, and it is expected to be signed before the end of next month to start its implementation this year, and it will supply the kingdom with 300 million cubic meters of drinking water annually, to meet its needs and cover the water deficit over the next decade.
Some media outlets have recently reported that Israel does not intend to return to the water selling agreement with Jordan.
