Khaberni - The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday the hosting of the ambassadors of Jordan, Egypt, and Palestine to the Republic of Iraq, while noting that Iraq expressed its regret regarding these countries’ stance on Iraq's decision to submit its maritime zones map to the United Nations.
The ministry stated in a declaration: "The Deputy Minister for Bilateral Relations, Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Ulum, hosted in separate meetings the ambassadors of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Ahmed Samir Helmi, and Palestine, Samar Abdel Rahman Hussein Awadallah, and Jordan, Maher Salem Al-Tarawneh, following the statements issued by their countries regarding the submission of the maritime zones map by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations."
Bahr Al-Ulum affirmed that "Iraq's decision to submit its maritime zones map constitutes a sovereign right that cannot be retracted," explaining "Iraq’s stance and observations regarding what was omitted in the Egyptian statement, which neglected Iraq’s opinion, stance, and the measures it had taken in complete accordance with the provisions of international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, with full transparency reflecting its commitment to addressing all related issues through legal and diplomatic frameworks, thus preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and safeguarding its national rights."
He added that "Iraq expressed its regret over the issuance of such statements, which led to dissatisfaction at both the official and public levels," emphasizing "the depth and robustness of the fraternal and historical relations that bind the Republic of Iraq with Egypt, Jordan, and Palestine."
He confirmed "the importance of exercising the utmost precision and objectivity in official statements and stances; due to their direct impact on the course of bilateral relations, stressing that any statement should include equal respect for the sovereignty of the countries," expressing pride in "the distinguished relations that bind the Republic of Iraq with Egypt, Jordan, and Palestine and its keenness on further developing them in various fields."
