Khaberni - A responsible source revealed that the government has prepared an alternative plan to the agreement for purchasing additional water from Israel (50 million cubic meters annually).
The source mentioned that the government began preparing this plan last year under the direction of Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, before the expiration of the original agreement, to ensure the sustainability of Jordan's water security.
According to the source, the agreement itself ended three months ago and has not been renewed yet; this agreement is considered an important part of the cooperation in the water sector between Jordan and Israel.
The source emphasized that national interest will determine Jordan’s options and priorities in this matter and future actions concerning this issue.
The source revealed that the final steps are currently being completed for the financial closure of the national water carrier project with international and local bodies, which is expected to be signed before the end of next month so that its implementation can begin this year, providing the kingdom with 300 million cubic meters of drinking water annually to cover its needs and the water deficit over the next decade.
