Khaberni - In light of the regulatory role played by the Jordan Food and Drug Administration to ensure the safety of food and drugs, the institution continues its technical and verification procedures related to monitoring contamination of certain infant milk products (under the age of one) with cereulide and by tracking and studying the supply chains of the contaminant substance, which is arachidonic acid oil, used in some infant milk formulations by Nutricia in the Netherlands. Therefore, the institution will, in cooperation with the company, make a decision to precautionary withdraw some batches currently on the Jordanian market of Bebelac 1 (0-6) & Bebelac AR
This is a proactive decision coordinated with the manufacturing company, which will carry out this voluntary withdrawal from pharmacies and in coordination with the control and inspection teams at the institution. It is emphasized that the batches announced and affected by the precautionary withdrawal comply with the Jordanian technical rule accredited for testing infant milk for less than a year, and align with global legislation in this regard. This withdrawal does not indicate a confirmed health risk to consumers, but as a precautionary measure to ensure and verify their safety and to conduct additional tests for all batches in cooperation with the manufacturing company for this purpose. This verification has been ongoing since the issue was notified globally and includes the institution conducting additional tests for verification purposes for all milk types present in pharmacies, and the institution reaffirms that it operates based on a scientific methodology built on risk assessment, and in coordination with related international regulatory bodies, to contain any potential risks and prevent their recurrence in the future. The institution also emphasizes that the health and safety of infants are of utmost priority, and it will not hesitate to apply the adopted systems and instructions to ensure the highest levels of consumer protection.
