Khaberni - "Corriere Roma" reported that a father turned over accidentally in his sleep onto the body of his infant daughter (10 months old) and blocked her airway, indicating that the tragic incident occurred in the municipality of Rieti.
The man confirmed that when he woke up, he discovered that his daughter had turned blue and was not breathing.
The man immediately called emergency services, after which paramedics arrived at the scene, and they arranged for the critically ill child to be transferred to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, where she arrived on the morning of last Sunday.
The newspaper explained that doctors struggled for three days to save the victim's life, but they were unable to save her - prolonged cardiac arrest led to irreversible brain damage.
It is still unclear whether the father will face criminal charges in connection with the incident.
