Khaberni - A Hezbollah official said, on Wednesday, that the party does not intend to militarily intervene if the United States delivers "limited" strikes on Iran, while warning of a "red line" which is targeting the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Washington has consequently deployed a massive military force in the Gulf region and the Middle East, amidst its threats over the past weeks to launch a military attack on Tehran if negotiations between them fail, with the third round being held on Thursday in Geneva.
The official, who preferred to remain anonymous, said, "If the American strikes on Iran are limited, Hezbollah's stance is not to intervene militarily. But if their goal is to topple the Iranian regime or target the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, then the party will intervene at that point."
He stressed that any targeting of Khamenei "would be seen as a red line that cannot be ignored, and any war aiming to overthrow the regime in Iran means that Israel will inevitably rush to wage war on Lebanon."
He explained that under this scenario, "Hezbollah's intervention will not be limited but will be an existential fight."
The Lebanese authorities fear that the party may intervene in any regional escalation, especially against Israel.
