Common Mistakes at the Breakfast Table That Spoil the Benefits of Fasting

Khaberni - In Ramadan, many people are keen to benefit from the health benefits of fasting, but some incorrect dietary habits at the breakfast table can turn these benefits into health problems, such as digestive disorders, weight gain, and feelings of lethargy.

Nutrition experts emphasize that the method of breaking the fast and choosing foods play a crucial role in maintaining bodily balance after long hours of abstaining from eating and drinking.

One of the most common mistakes is starting with large amounts of food at once, which strains the digestive system and causes bloating and indigestion. It is advisable to start with a light meal such as dates and water or soup, then wait a bit before consuming the main meal.

Excessive consumption of fried and fatty foods is another habit that leads to feelings of lethargy and increased calorie intake, in addition to its negative impact on heart health and digestion.

The same applies to Ramadan sweets, which contain high amounts of sugar and fats, potentially causing a rapid increase in blood sugar levels followed by feelings of tiredness and hunger.

Another repeated mistake is consuming soft drinks and sugar-sweetened juices instead of water, which contributes to increased calorie intake and affects body hydration. Additionally, excessive coffee drinking immediately after breakfast can lead to sleep disturbances and increased fluid loss.

Experts also warn against neglecting vegetables and fibers in the breakfast meal, as they help improve digestion and enhance feelings of fullness, in addition to stabilizing blood sugar levels.

To avoid these problems, it is advised to moderate food intake, rely on balanced meals that include protein, vegetables, and complex carbohydrates, along with drinking adequate amounts of water and strategically distributing food between Iftar and Suhoor.

Experts affirm that adhering to healthy dietary habits during Ramadan not only helps avoid health issues but also enhances the physical benefits of fasting and provides the faster with energy and vitality throughout the month.
