Maariv Hebrew Israel fears Trumps betrayal

Khaberni - The Israeli newspaper "Maariv" revealed on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, about a state of anxiety prevailing in the political and security circles in Israel regarding the future directions of U.S. President Donald Trump, warning of a "nightmare" represented in Washington making a quick and sudden agreement with Tehran that serves only American interests, similar to what happened in the Yemeni file.

The analysis published by the newspaper indicated that the greatest fear lies in Trump's attempt to pull off a "showy victory" which allows him to withdraw from the scene, leaving Israel directly facing the threats.

The newspaper clarified that the experience with the Houthis proved Trump's ability to make agreements that protect American interests and ignore ballistic missiles and regional agents, which might be repeated with Iran.

The newspaper categorized the upcoming probabilities according to their danger level on Israeli national security:

The worst scenario (partial agreement): Making an agreement that does not end the nuclear program nor touches the ballistic capabilities, in exchange for releasing massive funds to the Iranian regime, which grants it a "lifesaver" to survive and fund.

The medium scenario (limited strike): Washington carrying out a limited military strike followed by a bad deal, where the newspaper suggested that the Iranian response would be directed towards Israel, leaving Tel Aviv to pay the price without achieving strategic gains.

About the preferred options for the Israeli leadership, "Maariv" presented two paths:

The ideal scenario: An extended joint American-Israeli military operation aimed at destroying nuclear and ballistic capabilities and overthrowing the Iranian regime.

The alternative option: Continuing the current situation through tightening the naval blockade, escalating economic sanctions, and inciting internal public opinion in Iran, considering that this option remains much better than a "bad deal".

The newspaper concluded its report by indicating that the entire scene remains dependent on Trump's whims and his unexpected decisions, affirming that the huge American military mobilizations around Iran do not necessarily guarantee Washington going into a comprehensive confrontation that meets Israeli aspirations.
