Khaberni - The Criminal Investigation Department arrested a man who impersonated an official in the Amman Municipality, accused of defrauding a citizen by taking a sum of money to pay financial dues on his behalf at one of the municipality's departments, under the pretext of offering assistance.
A security source said that the victimized citizen went to one of the departments in the Amman Municipality to pay financial dues he owed, and there he met a man who deceived him into believing he was a municipal employee. The impostor took the value of the financial dues from the victim, promising to pay on the victim’s behalf to save him time and effort, under the guise of providing assistance, asked him to leave, and told him that he would receive a text message from the municipality confirming the payment.
Moreover, the message confirming the payment never reached the victim. Subsequently, he returned to the municipality and inquired about the person he had given the money to, only to discover that he was not an employee and had fallen victim to fraud, leading him to file a complaint.
The source continued, after investigation and gathering information, the fraudster was identified. It turned out he had a prior criminal record in fraud cases and was wanted by judicial order. A strategic trap was set for him, and upon his arrest, he confessed to defrauding the victim, and he was then referred to the judiciary.
