Khaberni - US President Donald Trump accused Iran on Wednesday of seeking to develop missiles capable of striking the United States, a technology that only a few countries possess.
Trump said in his State of the Union address: "They have already developed missiles that can threaten Europe and our bases abroad, and they are working on building missiles that will soon be able to reach the United States."
By 2025, the American Defense Intelligence Agency estimated that Iran could be able to develop an intercontinental ballistic missile by 2035 "if Tehran decides to continue this capability," although it did not mention whether Iran had made such a decision.
Tehran currently possesses short- and medium-range ballistic missiles with a range of about 3,000 kilometers, according to the US Congress Research Service.
The United States is more than 9,000 kilometers away from the western edge of Iran.
Washington and Tehran concluded two rounds of talks aimed at reaching an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program to replace the agreement that Trump withdrew from during his first term.
In addition to repeatedly calling on Iran to stop enriching uranium, the United States also sought to include its ballistic missile program and support for armed groups in the region on the negotiation table, which Tehran refused.
Trump sent a massive military force to the Middle East, including two aircraft carriers and more than 12 warships, as well as a large number of fighters and other assets.
Trump continues to threaten to strike Iran if negotiations fail to reach a new agreement. The talks with Tehran are scheduled to resume on Thursday.
Through diplomatic means
Trump confirmed that he prefers to resolve the confrontation with Iran through diplomatic means, but warned that he will never allow Tehran to develop a nuclear weapon.
Trump said: "We are in negotiations with them, and they want to make a deal, but we haven't heard those secret words from them: (We will never have a nuclear weapon)."
He added "The best way to solve this problem is through diplomacy, but there is one thing for sure: I will never allow the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism, which is what they are by far, to possess a nuclear weapon."
