Newcastle United secured its qualification for the round of 16 of the Champions League after defeating its guest, Qarabag, with three goals to two on Tuesday in the second leg of the qualifying play-off.
Newcastle had previously swept the Azerbaijani team on their own turf in the first leg encounter (1-6), thus dominating the aggregate score of the home and away matches (9-3).
Newcastle started strong and swiftly, scoring an early goal through Sandro Tonali in the 4th minute followed by Joelinton scoring the second goal in the 6th minute.
In the 51st minute, Camilo Duran narrowed the gap by scoring Qarabag's first goal in the 51st minute, then Sven Botman again affirmed Newcastle’s superiority by scoring the third goal for the English team in the 52nd minute.
In the 57th minute, Qarabag again narrowed the gap by scoring their second goal through their player Javarkuliyev.
