After her photos went viral on the streets an Egyptian minister rescues a nuclear engineer from homelessness

Khaberni - Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Maya Morsi, visited a nuclear power engineer whose photos had spread as she was bedding down the road after losing her home.

The pictures of the "homeless nuclear power engineer", named Layla, provoked a wide response after she transitioned from a precise field employee to a homeless woman spending her days on the street and sleeping on the roadside, with many bloggers calling for her care and support to resolve her crisis.

Inside one of the elderly care homes in Giza Governorate, the Minister of Social Solidarity visited Engineer Layla to ensure her well-being, with the Governor of Giza present to confirm that all necessary care was provided.

The department's rapid intervention teams had previously rushed to transfer the 66-year-old lady to "Al-Khair" home, run by the Human Relations Association, to receive psychological, social, and comprehensive medical care.

The Ministry of Social Solidarity affirmed that this step reflects the state's commitment to protect the most needy groups and ensure a dignified life for them, noting that her story highlights the importance of society's role in monitoring such cases and collaborating with state institutions to provide the necessary support.

Engineer Layla Ibrahim Hassan (66 years old) worked for years at the Atomic Energy Authority in Inshas city, and found herself homeless 7 months ago after losing her apartment due to a dispute with the property owner. After discovering her situation, her story became a "trend" demanding a solution to her problem and appropriate recognition.

Engineer Layla revealed the reason for losing her apartment, saying she rented a residential apartment in the Tahrir district of Giza Governorate 8 years ago, with a monthly rent of 1200 pounds and a 10% increase every two years. However, she was shocked when the property owner demanded a higher rent 7 months ago or to leave, amidst a huge rise in rents coinciding with the arrival of large numbers of refugees in the area and increased demand for apartments.

She explained that she refused the amount demanded by the property owner, and also refused to leave, but was surprised when he broke into the apartment and changed the locks, depriving her of her shelter and forcing her to live on the street.
