Khaberni - The Egyptian Space Technology Company, Aqmar, is gearing up to launch satellite communication services and solutions, designed specifically to meet the needs of the local market and support vital sectors in areas beyond the coverage of traditional networks, focusing on low-cost, high-reliability Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.
In a press statement today, Tuesday, Aqmar said that in its initial operational phase, it relies on leasing and operating satellite capacities from satellites owned by international companies with satellites, allowing a quick market entry and provision of satellite solutions while minimizing capital risks and allowing for expansion flexibility according to demand growth.
It pointed out that this model grants it the capability for immediate operation, with the possibility of gradually increasing capacities without the need for massive investments in satellite development, aiming in the first phase at areas with weak or no terrestrial coverage, especially desert and border areas and locations of industrial projects, and extended infrastructure over long distances.
It also focuses on Internet of Things (IoT) services, which enable the connection of sensors and equipment in remote locations to central systems for data management and control, through periodically sending and receiving small data packets.
It noted that the most prominent applications would be monitoring gas and oil pipelines and electrical towers, tracking heavy assets and equipment, smart meter systems, remote weather stations, and operating valves and water pumps remotely, and major remote projects like East Oweinat and Toshka, indicating that it will provide locally developed solutions, ensuring product ease and match of purpose, operational efficiency, and cost reduction.
It explained that it has received support from the Presidential initiative "Egypt Makes Electronics" "EME" under the management of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), which provided it with advanced labs for quality and reliability tests under various environmental conditions, supporting the development and manufacturing of devices and equipment according to approved industrial standards.
The Egyptian Ministry of Communications has also provided Aqmar with a headquarters within the Knowledge City in the new administrative capital, within a comprehensive technological environment that enhances collaboration and accelerates development.
Ahmed Nassar, the company's executive director, in an exclusive statement to the "German News Agency", stated that oil and gas companies are among the main beneficiaries of the new service, especially in monitoring and securing pipeline lines extended in remote areas, reducing the risks of leakage or sabotage and speeding up the response to malfunctions.
He referred to the benefit of electricity distribution companies that manage high-pressure towers, where Aqmar's solutions make it possible to precisely locate faults and send the coordinates immediately, thus reducing the downtime and operating costs.
