Husayn alShar Responds to Reports about the Syrian Presidents Intention to Isolate His Brothers

Khaberni - Husayn al-Shar’, father of the Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar’, commented on a report published by the newspaper "Zaman al-Wasl", quoting sources talking about the president's intention to isolate his brothers Maher and Hazem from their positions.
Husayn al-Shar’ said in response to the news: "Yes, this is true and they are looking for a replacement. They have fulfilled their duties and left with clean hands," indicating the end of their tasks within new administrative and organizational arrangements.
On Saturday, "Zaman al-Wasl" reported from informed sources that Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar' is about to make an imminent decision to distance his brothers Maher and Hazem from their high positions in the state, in a move described as an attempt to reorganize the inner circle and reduce criticisms of "nepotism".

Currently, Maher al-Shar’ holds the position of Secretary-General of the Presidency, while Hazem al-Shar’ serves as the Vice President of the Supreme Council for Economic Development.

Sources, who requested anonymity, mentioned that they attended serious discussions within the presidency where the President expressed his awareness of the political burden resulting from appointing his brothers to sensitive positions, an issue that began to affect other leaders in the state.

The source confirmed that intensive deliberations are underway to establish legal controls that prevent officials from holding more than one leadership position and prohibit the appointment of first-degree relatives of officials in sovereign and sensitive positions.

This step comes within broader efforts to ensure the efficiency of economic and political management amidst increasing internal pressures.
