Khaberni - London police have arrested the former British Ambassador to America, Peter Mandelson, on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Peter Mandelson (72 years old) was dismissed from his position in September, when his close friendship with the late American businessman Jeffrey Epstein became clear.
Earlier this month, the police began a criminal investigation into Mandelson’s case, after the government of Prime Minister Keir Starmer referred to them communications between the former ambassador and Epstein, who was convicted of committing sexual crimes.
London police said in a statement: "The police arrested a 72-year-old man on charges of misconduct in public office."
Epstein died in a cell in a New York prison on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, with no possibility of bail.
This came after more than a decade of his conviction for "enticing a minor to engage in prostitution," which listed him as a sex offender.
Jeffrey Epstein was a friend of British politician Peter Mandelson, a friendship Mandelson said he regretted as it cost him his position as the UK Ambassador to Washington in 2025. Later, Mandelson also resigned from the Labour Party.
According to documents from Epstein's files, Mandelson had previously informed Epstein about a 500 billion euro European bailout plan to save the unified European currency.
