Khaberni - The Public Service and Administration Authority announced on Monday the extension of the period for receiving opinions in the electronic survey related to the proposal to implement a 4-day workweek system until March 5, 2026.
The authority added that this extension is due to the broad participation of public sector employees, and to allow more of them the opportunity to contribute their opinions.
This extension aims to enhance the inclusiveness of participation and to rely on accurate data that contribute to forming a balanced vision that supports institutional performance efficiency and maintains the quality and sustainability of provided services.
Faiez Al-Nahar, head of the Public Service and Administration Authority, emphasized that the crucial element in making the decision to close government agencies for 3 days is the continuity of providing services with existing efficiency and effectiveness, explaining that any impact on this continuity will determine the decision's timing and implementation.
Al-Nahar stated on "Al-Mamlaka" channel on Sunday, that the reasons for opting to reduce the number of workdays include increasing employee productivity, achieving a balance between professional and personal life, and reducing operational costs for the government and employees.
He clarified that the idea has positive implications for employees, by giving them space to enhance their capabilities or to engage in private projects that generate additional income for them.
Al-Nahar explored options that the government might adopt, among them the gradual transition in departments that are more digitally mature in terms of services.
He added that among the proposals is also the implementation of two types of flexible work patterns within the same department, namely remote work and flexible start and end times.
He indicated that some jobs might be granted the option of flexible work among the models proposed, such as administrative and intellectual roles and those working in the field of studies and others.
