Parliamentary memorandum demanding extension of sick leave for cancer patients

Khaberni  - A group of deputies signed a parliamentary memorandum demanding an extension of the sick leave granted to cancer patients working in government institutions, so that it exceeds six months instead of the currently applied 160 days, taking into account the difficult health circumstances that patients face during the treatment journey.

The memorandum, adopted by Deputy Hussein Al-Amoush, emphasized that many cancer patients require long treatment periods, including chemotherapy or radiation sessions, in addition to recuperation periods that may exceed the legally specified duration, placing them under significant psychological and financial pressure. He stressed that humanitarian and national duty require providing a supportive work environment that ensures job stability and adequate income for the sick employee during their treatment period.

Al-Amoush pointed out that the proposed extension would help alleviate the burdens on patients and their families, and would enhance principles of job fairness and social care within the public sector, noting that preserving the health of the employee should be a priority over any administrative considerations.

Al-Amoush called on the government to respond to the memorandum, and to make the necessary amendments to related systems and regulations, ensuring that cancer patients in government institutions are granted sick leave that matches the nature of the illness and treatment requirements, reflecting the state's commitment to supporting the most in need of care.
