The Crown Prince Chairs a Meeting to Discuss Ways to Develop the Financial Technology Sector

Khaberni  - His Royal Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince, chaired a meeting at the Al Husseiniya Palace on Monday to discuss ways to develop the Financial Technology (FinTech) sector, which is based on using technology to advance financial services.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, emphasized the importance of enhancing Jordan’s position as a leading regional hub for innovation in the field of financial technology, contributing to supporting the national economy and boosting investment in this sector.

His Highness listened to a presentation by the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Adel Sharkas, which covered the most prominent national initiatives to develop the financial technology sector in Jordan, and the efforts being made to enhance infrastructure and update legislative frameworks associated with the sector.

He mentioned that digital payment systems and advanced digital financing and insurance solutions represent prominent models of financial technology applications.

Sharkas reviewed specialized training programs offered by the Central Bank in the areas of financial inclusion, financial technology, and cybersecurity, in addition to the bank’s ongoing support for startups to enable them to develop their capabilities in financial innovation, through the Jordanian Financial Technology Academy affiliated with it.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Mohannad Shehadeh, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Abdulhakim Al-Shibli, the Chairman of the Bankers Association, Engineer Basem Salem, the Director of the Office of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Dr. Zaid Al-Baqaeen, and the CEO of the Jordanian Payment and Clearing Systems Company, Maha Al-Baho.
