US Forces to Complete Withdrawal from Syria Within a Month

Khaberni - The U.S. forces leading the international coalition against the ISIS terrorist organization intend to fully withdraw from Syria within a month, concurrently with the start of their evacuation from a base in northeastern Syria, as confirmed by a government, a Kurdish, and a diplomatic source.

This step follows the advance of Syrian forces into areas previously controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, following clashes between the two parties that led to an agreement to integrate the self-administration institutions within the state framework.

A Syrian government source stated, “Within a month, they will withdraw from Syria and will no longer maintain any military presence at bases in the field.”

The Kurdish source mentioned the same timeframe, while the diplomatic source estimated that "the withdrawal will be completed within twenty days," also confirming that Washington will not keep any military bases in Syria.

The United States began withdrawing from the Qasrik base on Monday, a major base for them in northeastern Syria, according to the Kurdish source.

The source reported, "There’s a withdrawal operation for vehicles, military, and logistical equipment from Qasrik, the central base of the international coalition forces, heading towards Iraq."

Alongside Qasrik, U.S. forces are still present at Khirab al-Jir base in the countryside of Rmelan in Hasaka.

The United States deployed troops in Syria and Iraq as part of the international coalition to combat the ISIS terrorist organization, which was formed in 2014 after the organization seized vast areas of the two countries until it was defeated from its last strongholds in Iraq in 2017 and from Syria in 2019.

Over the past two weeks, the United States has withdrawn from a base on the outskirts of Al-Shaddadi town, which housed a prison where Kurdish forces detained elements from the organization, before Syrian forces advanced into the area last month.

This coincides with Iraq's announcement in January of the complete withdrawal of coalition forces from its federal territory.

The U.S. withdrawal from military bases comes at a time when Washington announced the completion of the transfer process of more than 5700 ISIS terrorist organization detainees who were held by Kurdish forces to Iraq, in an operation it said aimed "to ensure the detention of ISIS terrorist organization detainees within detention centers."

At the same time, nearly all residents of al-Hol camp, which housed families of elements in the organization, left under unclear circumstances to an unknown location, while authorities relocated others to a camp under their control in Aleppo.

In 2025, Syria joined the international coalition to combat the ISIS terrorist organization led by Washington, which shows significant support for the new authorities led by President Ahmad al-Shar’a.

The United States repeatedly announces strikes targeting positions of the organization in Syria, while Syrian authorities occasionally conduct security operations against cells affiliated with the organization.
