Khaberni - The political office in the Labor Party issued a stern warning to MP Hamza Al-Tubasi, considering him expelled from the party and still assigned by the Independent Election Commission to occupy the Labor Party's seat in the House of Representatives.
The political office statement said that Mr. Hamza Hani Mohammed Khalil, who declared to the media that he is studying the bill cautiously and will vote away from "populism", does not represent the Labor Party under the parliament's dome but himself only; therefore, it warns him to agree on the new social security bill as long as he occupies the party’s seat in the parliament, despite the will of the party's institutions and in violation of the principles of legitimacy and legality.
After a massive meeting that included all the leaderships in all party bodies yesterday, Saturday, the political office announced its complete, categorical, and decisive rejection of the draft law published on the Legislation and Opinion Bureau's website with all its unfair, dangerous amendments and its disastrous implications on the social, economic, and political security of the workers in this country and for the future generations, dangerously affecting the workers' achievements and rights accumulated over decades.
According to the statement, the party will make strenuous efforts and coordinate with other national forces to thwart the draft and withdraw it, especially as it removes the Social Security institution entirely outside the parliamentary oversight frameworks and from all forms of control and accountability, concentrating all powers in the hands of the institution’s head, named the governor, appointed by the decision of the Cabinet, and violates the balanced tripartite representation of workers, employers, and the government, reducing both representatives of workers and employers to a minority without voting power, and even tries to entice the Federation of Labor Unions by allocating an annual donation of one hundred thousand dinars from the insurance surplus to its benefit in a dangerous meddling with the workers' and insured’s funds!
The party considers the draft law to catastrophically meddle with the fates and livelihoods of workers, extending the mandatory retirement age by an additional five years and practically canceling early retirement, thus depriving young people of employment opportunities in a market suffering from the highest unemployment rates in the region and from a lack of job security, in addition to actually reducing retirement salaries through the new calculations, creating many groups with new and old legal standings in clear imbalance and violation of Article Six of the Constitution
The party considers the entire draft law with its published articles as a deviation from the social contract and the principles of social solidarity, entrenching flawed policies that have brought social security to this point, while the sources of failure and its causes remain, warning of more severe consequences if this project is implemented.
The party affirms that the government will resort, after a few years, to harsher amendments because it is the main reason for the failed investments in social security and the lending that exceeded reasonable and acceptable limits, and the inclusion of military personnel in a civil fund despite the vast disparities in years of service and the number of contributions between civilians and military personnel, and hence the disparity in the duration of retirement salary payments and the Social Security’s capacity to sustain them!!
The party insists on the right of the military personnel to a secure and fair insurance within a fund specifically managed by the government as was previously the case, under equations and conditions that suit their nature of work, which is respected and honored by all Jordanians as they are the shield of the nation.
The party declares that its stance on all issues is represented only by the party's representative, Dr. Qassem Al-Quba’i, under the dome and no one else.
