Khaberni - The General Manager of the Civil Consumption Corporation, Issam Al-Jarrah, confirmed on Sunday that large quantities of Tunisian olive oil will be available next week, with consecutive shipments arriving in March.
Al-Jarrah pointed out that this week will see the arrival of a large amount of containers, and another large quantity will arrive at the beginning of March, in addition to a large batch on March 15, which are consecutive quantities that will be sold at the same price.
Al-Jarrah explained that both the military and civil institutions sell a 5-liter bottle of Tunisian olive oil at a cost price of 21 dinars, due to the fact that these institutions are service-oriented and act as arms of the state in providing essential and primary materials to citizens with high quality and reasonable prices, and they are non-profit institutions aimed at providing service to citizens wherever they are, in addition to providing a strategic stock for the state for some basic goods.
He indicated that, by directive of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Yarub Qudah, measures were taken to overcome the rush that occurred at the corporation’s markets to purchase olive oil, due to the limited quantity that had arrived, where the corporation preferred to distribute the quantity directly to citizens due to the blessed Ramadan, to benefit from it.
He mentioned that the product was distributed across all 70 markets of the corporation, noting that there were large crowds in some areas, and in some markets, there were difficulties in selling due to the large number of citizens present, where their number exceeded 1500 citizens.
He added that this morning another measure was taken by distributing cards to citizens so that each citizen gets one bottle of olive oil in an organized manner, confirming that everyone present got the product without exception, and the entire quantity was sold in an organized and cooperative manner, where each person had a card indicating their turn and was charged for it after getting the product.
Al-Jarrah pointed out that due to the increasing demand for Tunisian olive oil from more than one entity, consecutive batches of the product arrive, explaining that there was a problem faced by suppliers regarding the tin plates, which is a condition of the Jordanian import license that the containers be in tin plates, while they usually export olive oil in healthy plastic containers to various countries around the world. However, the condition in the Jordanian license required the product to be in tin plates, which took time, in addition to the fact that maritime shipping takes about 30 days approximately.
The sale of Tunisian olive oil at the Civil Consumption Corporation began on Sunday, according to a mechanism that considers the order to prevent crowding, as stated previously by the General Manager of the corporation, Issam Al-Jarrah.
For his part, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yarub Qudah, directed the management of the Civil Consumption Corporation to put in place appropriate mechanisms to regulate the sale of olive oil to citizens in its markets.
