Khaberni - A recent scientific study showed that the lemon balm plant, known as lemon balm, contains substances that improve brain health and protect it from inflammation.
Scientists conducted a comprehensive analysis of the components of the lemon balm plant, finding that it contains high concentrations of rosmarinic acid, chlorogenic acid, caffeine, and caffeic acid, all of which are known for their antioxidant properties, protecting the body and the nervous system from inflammation.
Tests conducted on experimental mice showed that lemon balm extract protects the cells of the hypothalamus in mice from oxidative stress caused by hydrogen peroxide, and this extract successfully reduced the gene expression of inflammatory agents such as TNF-α and NOS-2, and increased the level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which is a protein that supports the survival and flexibility of neurons.
In tests conducted on neuronal mouse cells, lemon balm extract successfully inhibited the gene expression of "Interleukin-6" (IL-6) and the enzyme "Acetylcholinesterase," both of which are considered biomarkers for inflammation and cognitive disorders
However, researchers indicate that it is premature to discuss the clinical effects caused by lemon balm, but the results they have reached suggest the possibility of benefiting from it in products and dietary supplements that support brain health and enhance cognitive health.
