Charging 5 People in France with Financing Hamas Movement

Khaberni  - The French Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office announced today, Saturday, the indictment of 5 individuals linked to two French organizations for channeling money to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

The French prosecutor's office clarified that the five accused have been placed under judicial surveillance after being charged yesterday, Friday, confirming information published by the newspaper "Le Figaro," which reported that the accused are connected with the associations "Umani Terre" and "Soutien Umani Terre."

These individuals are pursued for charges, including "financing a terrorist enterprise" and operating within an "organized gang."

These charges followed raids and inspections of the "Umani Terre" association, as well as offices and homes of individuals working in or formerly associated with these organizations.

The case dates back to a preliminary investigation that was launched in November 2023 and assigned to the Terrorism Counteraction Section of the Criminal Police in Paris and the General Directorate for Internal Security in charge of counter-espionage within French territories, in addition to the Central Office for Combating Major Financial Crime.

The French prosecutor's office stated that the two organizations, aiming to provide social assistance to Palestinians in refugee camps in the West Bank, Lebanon, and Gaza, have become, along with their employees, "suspected of delivering aid to the Hamas movement under the guise of humanitarian aid.”

The initial inspections took place on January 31, 2024. According to the prosecution, documents and computer equipment were seized during the operation, and analysis of the seized digital media, along with information collected in cooperation with Italy, the United States, and Israel, led to the execution of the latest inspections.

The investigations are set to continue under the supervision of 3 investigating judges specialized in terrorism cases.
