Khaberni - An Indian court has issued a death sentence to a couple for sexually assaulting 33 boys, some of whom are only 3 years old, and selling video clips showing the assaults on the “dark web,” according to authorities.
Some victims were admitted to the hospital to receive treatment for genital injuries incurred during the sexual assaults, according to a statement released on Friday by the Indian National Investigation Agency.
The assaults were committed between 2010 and 2020 in the districts of Banda and Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, Northern India.
The statement said: “During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused had committed various heinous acts, including sexual assaults with penetration against 33 male children.”
A special court issued the death sentence to the couple and ordered the state government to pay one million rupees ($11,021 US dollars) in compensation to each victim.
The sentence is appealable to a higher court.
The National Investigation Agency reported that the couple lured their victims using video games online, and through money and gifts.
The couple recorded the assaults, selling the videos and pictures on the “dark web” to clients in 47 countries, according to the newspaper “Times of India”.
The last executions in India were carried out in 2020 against four men who were hanged after being convicted of gang raping and murdering a woman on a bus in Delhi in 2012.-(Agencies)
