Lebanese President Condemns Israeli Raids in the South and East of the Country

Khaberni - Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the deadly Israeli raids on Saturday that targeted the east and south of the country on Friday, while a Hezbollah member called for the suspension of ceasefire monitoring committee meetings between Israel and the party.

On Friday, ten people were killed in Israeli strikes on the Beqaa Valley in the east, and two others in the Ain el-Hilweh refugee camp in the south. The Israeli military announced that it targeted "command centers" belonging to Hezbollah and the Palestinian Hamas movement.

Aoun stated in a release that these attacks constitute "a hostile act clearly meant to thwart the diplomatic efforts and endeavors undertaken by Lebanon with its brotherly and friendly nations, foremost among them the United States, to solidify stability and stop Israeli hostilities against Lebanon."

Israel continues to carry out regular raids on Lebanon despite the ceasefire agreement signed in November 2024 following more than a year of hostilities with Hezbollah, often stating that it targets the party, but sometimes also targeting Hamas.

Hezbollah announced the death of one of its leaders in one of Friday's raids on the Beqaa.

The Hezbollah MP, Rami Abu Hamdan, stated on Saturday that the party will not accept "the authority being in the position of a political analyst as if to say that we are accustomed to Israeli strikes," calling on the government to suspend its meetings with the ceasefire monitoring committee that includes the United States, France, Lebanon, Israel, and the United Nations, "until the enemy ceases its attacks."

The committee is scheduled to meet next week.

The Lebanese government announced at the beginning of the week that the army will have a four-month renewable period to implement the second phase of its plan aimed at disarming Hezbollah, which emerged exhausted from the conflict with Israel.

However, Israel criticized the progress made by the army and described it as insufficient.
