Khaberni - American actor Eric Dane, known for his role in the series "Grey's Anatomy" and who later in life became an advocate for awareness of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis "ALS", died on Thursday at the age of 53.
His representatives said that Dane died from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, less than a year after announcing his diagnosis.
A statement requesting privacy for his family said: "He spent his final days surrounded by his dearest friends, his devoted wife, and his beautiful daughters Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world throughout his journey with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same battle. We will deeply miss him and will always remember him with love. Eric adored his fans and was always grateful for the outpouring of love and support he received".
In April 2025, Dane announced his diagnosis with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a progressive disease that attacks nerve cells that control muscles throughout the body. The disease gradually destroys these nerve cells and the connections necessary for walking, talking, and breathing, with most patients dying within three to five years of diagnosis.
